"Your Very Own 80's Montage"

When your current life soundtrack becomes a string of 80's "we're takin' it back" montages...you make a tape. 120 minutes of gloomy garage, new wave, borderline art goth (sorta), and plenty of montage songs from your favorite 80's films. Why yes, that IS the song from Teen Wolf.

"Summertime Luvin' - A Mixtape for Kisston"

My good pal, Kisston, is always making me mix tapes. I rarely get to see her and can almost never keep up with trades. I decided it was long past time that she got a tape from me, so I composed this party/summer mix. I hope we get to bump it on the beach very soon.

You too can bump this tape on the beach if you wish.

"The Tom Waits Hour of Power"

I was never all that fond of drinking games, even in the amateur days. However, a few summers ago,  my brother had told me about "Hour of Power". Immediately I thought it was a stupid idea. Then he went on to describe the accompanying playlists. Internet folks were composing hour long playlists with minute long clips of each song. Free to download, the song change would cue the next drink which made it easier to keep time.
The two of us decided to make our own Hour of Power playlist that solely featured the music of Tom Waits. Only instead of a playlist, we were going to make a mix tape. It wasn't easy. We had to pick the best minute long clip from 60 of our favorite Tom songs. Sometimes we'd listen to a song 3 or 4 times each. Then we'd synch it up, carefully eyeball the clock, and continuously hover over the REC button. It took all evening and night to finish it because we messed up a few times by not paying attention. Frequent pizza and beer breaks, as well. It actually ended up being a lot of fun making the damn thing.
A few days passed before we actually decided to play The Tom Waits Hour of Power. With Old Style, of course. We only got through Side A because I was uncomfortably full and our belches were starting to rattle the windows. We decided to take a ten minute break but...in mid sentence I was punched in the face with drunk. Intoxication hit me all at once. My brother wanted to keep going with Side B. I refused.
The tape has been collecting dust ever since then. I came across it today while digging through boxes and felt bad. So much time was spent making it and we didn't even get through the whole tape. I decided to convert it to digital and make it available to download. Somewhere out there a bunch of drunk idiots will appreciate a Tom Waits drinking game. Even if you aren't into drinking games, it's a brisk walk through Tom's musical catalog and that's enjoyable with or without beer.

"Darkness Upon The Face of The Deep"

An awesome tape from Kisston, thanks girl!
Funny story about Jewsus, I went on a couple of dates with a guy in that band. He was boring. Terrible band name but they make great music if you're into rattle/clank percussion (I am).
Ps: I hate Guns N Roses, for the record. Kudos to taping over a cassette of theirs.

"Go Tree, It's Yo Birfday!"

My younger sibling, Katelyn ('Tree' to her friends) is about to turn 21! Kids today...I can only imagine how krunk (do the kids still say 'krunk'?) she'll be getting in celebration. Being that she's a lover of rap and hip hop, I took it upon myself to make a mix for her with stuff she's into and some of the hip hop I grew up with. Of course it is in CD format because she's unsure of how to use a cassette player. I paired the mix with a DIY print out coloring book of various rap artists, courtesy of Bun B's Jumbo Coloring And Rap Activity Tumblr which will be in actual print this fall!

I arranged the CD into 5 tracks with 4 to 5 songs per track, that way my sister can't skip past stuff to get to her favorites (mwahaha). Free to download in a zip file here!

Here's the song listing:

1. Mystikal - Shake It Fast
De la Soul - Me, Myself & I
Outkast - ATLiens
Jean Grae - Kill Screen
50 Cent - In Da Club
2. Biggie Smalls - Hypnotize

Happy 21st, Tree!
